I've been working on a cover for my forthcoming book, The Ducks of Doom and the Lost Tribe of Idiots. I won't tell you what's in it, yet, but there are some ducks, a camel, and there's a lost tribe of idiots.
This is just a rough of the cover; there's more work to be done, including figuring out how to hold onto proportions when exporting from the Xara graphics package (I did something wrong).
I might also add a platypus and some chocolate cake. The camel needs work, as do the ducks, and probably the typography. But the white space is finished, except for the proportions.
A day of traveling today; rush hour, airports, etc.
Here are some chocolate airplanes.
If you have to fly, make sure the plane is edible.
No worries. Yet.

Duck Priests of Doom Invent Temple Offerings
Only two people on the planet Earth know that a world was accidentally created when J. S. Mill opened the wrong door in a Chinese restaurant. The owner, Billy Bob Wu, knows about it, but he doesn't want his property taxes raised to cover an entire world, so he boarded up the closet and won't utter another word on the subject.
J. S. Mill, the man who opened the door, knows about it, but he couldn't see the use of it, so, for him, it ceased to exist.
Groucho Marx knows about it, but he doesn't count, because he's a funny guy, and besides, he left us all alone with a lot of humorless politicians and fanatics and went off to entertain the angels.
Meanwhile, in the utility cupboard in the Grand Imperial Lucky Chinese Restaurant, where Tockworld was accidentally created, the priests are hard at work, telling people why they need priests.
And I'm listening to Doris Day singing 'How much is that doggy in the window...."
Speaking of angels, here's a picture of a chocolate angel food cake, along with the recipe.
I've got to stop doing this--looking at pictures of chocolate and cakes puts ideas in my head, and the next thing you know, I'm down at some bakery or chocolate shoppe telling myself that I'd better pick up just one more of those, in case there's a war or something, and all bakeries are destroyed.
Here, from the World War II Zone, are pictures of a Soviet self-propelled gun SU-76, which was recently discovered at the bottom of the Danube River in Austria. There was still some ammo in it, so, with a little cleaning and restoration work, you could use it to defend a bakery, in case there's another war.
Make cakes, not war!
No worries.

The Ducks of Doom Invade a Cupboard and Invent Toronto
I've written many stories about the Ducks of Doom, none of them coherent. I blame this on their murky origins--the ducks may have got their start when J. S. Mill opened a door leading into a utility cupboard in the Grand Imperial Lucky Chinese Restaurant (There's one on every planet, so it could have happened anywhere), or they may have got quacking when a mysterious privy flashed into existence in a park near George's Trains in Toronto--which, sadly, has moved to a distant suburb (the store, not Toronto).
You can't use the privy because there's a wizard in it, singing Jean-Paul Sartre's La Nausee at the top of his lungs while he reads about whalebone corsets in an ancient Sears catalog and waits for his malodorous cocoon to turn into a magical tent.
Yes.
It's not my fault.
Here is a superb Gothic style music cake with pet cats from Sweet Art Cakes in England. I find this very impressive. In fact, I think it belongs in an art gallery, or on a plate beside my keyboard, next to a handy fork.
And here, from Environmental Graffiti, is a rare picture of an 1840's era American steam engine, along with a description of what is known about it. Steam engines are best appreciated while eating chocolate cake.
All aboard!
